We met February 10 to prepare the kits for our March 5 workshop, Foldaway Tote Bags. In a package about half the size of a sheet of paper, this tote will unfold to a drawstring bag large enough to hold many purchases.

Members should bring their sewing machines and an 8-1/2 by 12 inch piece of fabric to coordinate with the orange or light blue tote bag material. The full-day workshop will be taught by Mollie Yauger. Remember–you don’t need to bring anything to eat, because lunch will be ordered out.

Preparations for April Founders’ Day Program: Next month, the Quilts-N-Things Quilt Guild will be 20 years young! The Guild began in 1989 with 36 quilters from Point Pleasant, WV and the surrounding communities.quilts-n-things-quilt The single meeting has expanded to a morning and evening group, to accomodate those who are employed during the day.

The photo at left shows the Quilts-N_Things history quilt.  The central tree has 36 leaves, signed by the founding members.  Around the central motif is a winding vine with leaves made from the fabrics used in the first Guild project, a sampler quilt.

Preparations for April 5 Founders’ Day have already begun. Michelle from the “Barborsville Quilt Shop” will provide the program.  Special guests will include founding members and other invited guests.  Members will provide a covered dish lunch.

Last month, Quilts-N-Things Guild members traveled to Gallipolis to turn over tote bags and pillows for breast cancer patients. The totes will carry helpful recovery information and the pillows allow more comfortable rest. The Guild plans to continue this project, with workshops planned to make additional totes. 1/7/2009 photo.

Beautiful. Looks great. This will be a good site for our guild.

Thanks, Mercedes! One think I think is neat is the little image that appears beside a comment. It looks like a little quilt block! I don’t know if you get the same block every time you make a comment–have to test that out!

I hope to add a post on the Quilt Barn Trail, photos, installation date, history. I’ll have to check with Mollie or the Tourist Bureau.
